With a November fight between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto currently in the works and the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Juan Manuel Marquez fight now rescheduled for September 19, does that mean that we can now speculate on the inevitable bout between Pacquiao and Mayweather?
Why not?
Mayweather was originally scheduled to fight Marquez, the three-weight world champion, on July 18 until Floyd injured cartilage in his rib and so the match had to be postponed. There had been some talk after the postponement that Mayweather would fight Pacquiao once doctors cleared him to fight after his rib injury healed.
Still, Mayweather, making a comeback, I believe, needs that one win in order to further sell an epic match with the Pac Man. So, I think the right thing was done which was to go back to the original plan.
The Mayweather-Marquez fight will take place on the weekend of Mexico's Independence Day. Mayweather will invite President Obama to the fight, while Marquez, from Mexico, will invite President Felipe Calderon.
Of course, Mayweather and Pacquiao will have to win their respective fights otherwise the conversation will be rendered moot.
