After Josh Barnett was suspended for failing a drug test and Affliction not being able to find a suitable opponent for W.A.M.M.A. heavyweight champ Fedor Emelianenko, the promotion has cancelled the August 1 pay-per-view. Barnett was found to have traces of an anabolic steroid in his system. Reportedly the company needed the pay-per-view to be successful in order to stay afloat, now it looks as though the mixed martial arts company will go kaput.
Fedor's contract is set to expire and U.F.C. President Dana White expressed interest recently of bringing him in to face Brock Lesnar.
Ironically, Bobby Lashley - with all of four m.m.a. fights to his credit - was one of several fighters under consideration to face Fedor, before the company scrapped the show after pressure from Showtime.
